Ramon Llull (1232 – 1315) was a Majorcan mystic known by many names and for many things. His name is often Anglicized as Raymond Lully or Raymond Lull; and Latinized as Raimundus or Raymundus Lullus or Lullius. He is also famously referred to as Doctor Illuminatus. Llull was a philosopher, logician, poet, theologian, Franciscan tertiary, and is credited with writing the first major work of Catalan literature. He is also considered a pioneer of computation theory, especially as we know of his influence on Leibniz. Within the Franciscan Order he is honored as a martyr. He was beatified in 1847 by Pope Pius IX.
