Kali the Mother (1900) was written by Sister Nivedita (Margaret Elizabeth Noble). Kali is a popular Hindu goddess who is considered to free her worshippers from fear (anxiety) and all troubles. In this book, Nivedita celebrated this Indian goddess Kali. The book also contains the poem Kali the Mother written by Hindu Swami Vivekananda. Vivekananda wrote the poem in 1898 when he was staying in Kashmir. In this poem, he worshipped the terrible form of the goddess. Sister Nivedita, who was accompanying Vivekananda at that time, noted that he was in a “fever of inspiration” prior to writing the poem, and became impatient until he could write down his thought.
